Furniture Construction
Our furniture is made using
traditional methods of dowels and glue. One craftsman makes the
entire piece from start to finish.
Our drawers are dovetailed. This results in a superior
product which is robust for every day family use.
Drawer backs and bottoms are rebated to ensure durability and
strength. Plywood is used for drawer bottoms.
The finishing of each piece
of furniture is the most important step in the process.
Consequently we use the best quality finishes available to ensure the
full character of the timber is enhanced. The finish used is
Nitrocellulose Lacquer for all cabinetry. Dining table tops are
coated in Acid Catalysed Polyurethane which is heat and moisture
resistant.
Care of your Furniture
Care for your Castle Hill Furniture by wiping it
over with a cloth dampened with warm water and a touch of dishwashing
liquid. Dust using a soft dry cloth or feather duster.
If you wish to polish your furniture you will
find a good selection at your local supermarket HOWEVER ensure that the
product you choose DOES NOT contain SILICONE as this penetrates the
surface coating and makes it difficult to repolish should damage
occur.
DO NOT:
- use abrasive cleaners or "spray and wipe" solutions
- use furniture polishes containing silicones
- leave liquid spillage's to pond on horizontal surfaces or
drip down vertical faces
- place hot dishes, pots, pan, cups mugs, etc directly onto
lacquered surfaces
- allow finger nail polishes and removers, personal
deodorants, perfumes, after shave, etc to come into contact with the
lacquer
- drop or throw sharp or heavy objects against the surface or
use excessive force to remove stubborn dirt, grease etc.
Rimu & Future Supply
RIMU is generally known by three distinct types; Heart, Sap
and Colour. To us Heart RIMU is described as having a very even
grain and look and is much darker in shade - it has become very
expensive and much more difficult to source. Sap RIMU has an even
grain but is much paler in colour. Colour RIMU is - we believe,
the most interesting and the grain can vary from being quite "wild and
erratic" to being very uniform in colour. The overall result from
using Colour RIMU is a much more interesting look to your piece of
furniture.
With the changes made by Government legislation mean that
while we are still able to obtain good supplies of both Sap and Colour
RIMU we must conserve and use appropriately what we do get. Where
Colour RIMU is your preference we will use it on all seen
faces.
Consequently to conserve our supply and to keep our prices in
check we will use RIMU timber veneer on sides of cabinets and Pine
T&G on
the back of bookcases and cabinets. Due to the skill of our
craftsmen and our polish shop it is virtually impossible to tell the
difference.
Prices quoted reflect the above however, we are happy to quote
for solid RIMU sides on your cabinets if requested.
Because wood is a natural product, there may be some
variations in colour and grain texture which are natural
characteristics of timber.
Talk to us,
we are happy to discuss your requirements.
